Bidding Farewell to The Q3 Doldrums

Oftentimes in markets it can feel like nothing happens for weeks or months on end. The Summer months this year might be a good example of that environment – after a roaring second quarter (measured by the S&P 500 bellwether, for example), this third one has felt a little tepid by comparison . On the other hand, there are times in the market where things move quickly, and it has started to feel that way over the past few weeks. You know those moments when they happen - in a very short window shifts happen quickly and suddenly we’re measuring the change in our brokerage accounts in dollars, rather than cents. Market moves that normally might take days, or even months, get compressed into hours as new information is rapidly absorbed and priced by market participants. Exciting political press releases (we should probably put exciting in quotes, right?), global conflict, major corporate announcements, data releases, and interest rate decisions can all can have an outsized market impact in tiny timeframes. This month a rate decision and speech made waves. Blink and you miss it – a superb reason to continually get invested and stay invested.
